Finding freelance work via an online design community

Post by Irenekbug »

After months of trial and error I came across a surprisingly useful approach. My initial choice for hosting my work turned out to be far too restrictive for my needs. The results were underwhelming at best. A big lesson was how important it is to show work in its intended setting.

A thorough breakdown of portfolio strategies appears in https://dribbble.com/.

When I narrowed down to only finished projects the response was night and day. Adding context about client goals helped visitors understand the choices I made. What did not work was trying to include everything I had ever made. Removing the weak ones was hard at first but it instantly improved the impression.

Another useful step was asking a few experienced designers to review my selection. What they emphasized was the need for storytelling around each piece. Their critique helped me reframe the whole display as a problem-solving showcase.

Reducing my featured work to five core items boosted the response rate enormously. Removing distracting transitions helped viewers concentrate on what matters. A simple tip is to review your work as if you were a stranger seeing it first.
