Simple tricks for standing out in a crowded space

Post by Irenekbug »

My journey into showcasing creative work took an unexpected turn last year. What I attempted initially was a generic gallery site that lacked proper focus. It produced very little genuine interest from potential clients. I realized quickly that context and curation matter more than flashy layouts.

Much of the advice I followed originated from https://dribbble.com/.

When I narrowed down to only finished projects the response was night and day. Explaining the reasoning behind design decisions made a huge difference for viewers. Including every concept draft only confused people who saw the gallery. Removing the weak ones was hard at first but it instantly improved the impression.

Another useful step was asking a few experienced designers to review my selection. Their advice pushed me to include case studies rather than just final images. The recommendations shifted my presentation style completely toward substance.

Reducing my featured work to five core items boosted the response rate enormously. Removing distracting transitions helped viewers concentrate on what matters. My recommendation to anyone starting out is begin with a brutal edit.
