The reason why top companies hire designers in creative circles

After months of trial and error I came across a surprisingly useful approach. I started with a big-name portfolio service that felt more like a social network. The results were underwhelming at best. What became clear is that random collections don't impress experienced viewers.

The full comparison that shaped my direction is over at https://dribbble.com/.

When I narrowed down to only finished projects the response was night and day. Adding context about client goals helped visitors understand the choices I made. Overloading the page with too many examples actually diluted my strongest pieces. Removing the weak ones was hard at first but it instantly improved the impression.

I had a senior colleague scan my curated picks and she pointed out what to drop. They all agreed that showing real client projects with before-and-after shots mattered most. Their critique helped me reframe the whole display as a problem-solving showcase.

In the end I found that less but better work produced the strongest results. Giving up decorative frills let the actual designs speak for themselves. The quickest win I know is removing anything that does not excite you anymore.
